STUDENT ANNOUNCEMENTS

PICTURE DAY – SEPTEMBER 22

 

STUDENTS:  When you are logged into Skyward Family Access, not only can you check your grades, you also have access to your School Fees (Fee Management) account by simply clicking on the TAB.  With Homecoming coming up, it is important to know your account balances.  Also, you can avoid the time spent standing in line at the Cashier’s office.  If you would like to make a payment on your account, you may do so either at the Cashier’s office or online with a Credit Card.

 

Students who want to take the ACT test will now have to register online at www.act.org.  ACT is no longer providing registration packets to high schools.  Fee waivers can be picked up in Room 317 (New Tech Office) for eligible students.  The next test is Saturday, October 28th at DACC.  Registration deadline is September 22nd.

 

Many college and job applications often ask for a list of accomplishments in various areas that are important to your future. Being a Viking Ambassador allows you to demonstrate your achievements in these areas and stand out from the others you are competing against.

In order to be a Viking Ambassador students must;

  • Attend three cultural experiences each year while in Viking Academy.
  • Complete sixty hours of community service during high school.
  • Attend a least one college fair during high school.
  • Complete an exit interview with a panel of teachers and administrators prior to graduation.
  • Senior year students must also create and maintain a digital portfolio to reflect personal growth as a Viking Academy student.

Once all requirements are met, you will be given a green stole to wear at graduation. For more information please see Mrs. Parker in T109, Mrs. Seibert in 228, or Ms. Lillard in 213.

 

 

HOMECOMING DANCE DATE REQUESTS:

Date request forms are required for DHS students bringing a non-DHS student to the Homecoming Dance.  Dates cannot be older than 20 years old and cannot be in Middle School.  Forms can be picked up in Offices T109, 114, 239, and 317FORMS MUST BE RETURNED TO ROOM 317 (NEW TECH OFFICE) NO LATER THAN WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 4TH.

 

Mr. Rosser is looking for interested students to go on a trip to Japan with him this coming summer. If you are interested in visiting this fascinating country, see the sites and take in some Asian culture please come to room 252 on Monday, September 25th from 3:00-3:20 PM."

This summer, students will have the opportunity to travel to Costa Rica from June 6-14. This trip is available to any DHS student - if you love travel, adventure, wildlife, volcanoes, and/or Spanish, this trip is for you! There will be an informational meeting on Wednesday, September 27th at 5:30 in Mrs. Long's room (337). Stay tuned for more information on Monday!

 

Do you like to tell stories?  When the teacher says “I want you to write a speech” do your eyes light up?  Do you like acting in plays?  Do you know a lot about current events and like to talk about them?  Does public speaking scare you but you know that it’s a fear you need to overcome?  

If you answered yes to any of these questions, Speech Team may be for you.  We will be having an informational meeting on Monday, September 25th right after school in 137.  If unable to attend but still interested in participating, contact Mr. Kortas at kortasa@danville118.org or Ms. Lester at lestert@danville118.org.

The Drama Club will have an organizational meeting in room 245 at 3:05 on Monday, Sept. 25.  Students should bring something to write with and an agenda, personal planner, or phone with conflicts and/or availability for the fall.

Library Club - Library Club will hold its first meeting on Thursday, September 28th from 3:00-4:00 PM.  Please have your ride pick you up at 4:00 PM at the circle drive doors.

Juniors and Seniors:  College representatives will coming here to visit the next couple months.  If you are interested in speaking with any of these reps, please sign up with Mrs. Campbell in Room 213.  Keep listening to the announcements for updates…more colleges and universities will be scheduled!

Hey Juniors, are you prepared for the upcoming PSAT and SAT????  Seniors, do you need some review for when you retake that SAT from last year???  Now’s your chance!  Starting next week, we will be having Khan Academy/Test Prep sessions during VIP.  Use this VIP time wisely and increase those test scores!!  Those of you hoping to qualify for National Merit Scholarships, time is of the essence...all juniors will be taking this qualifying test October 11.  Anyone is welcome!  Please sign up with Mrs. Campbell in the Guidance Office!

SPORTS: The Danville Vikings tied Champaign Centennial on Thursday night in Big12 action. The Vikings fell behind just over a minute into the game but were able to level the score at 1-1 at the 18 minute mark as Gage Moore fed Kevin Sanchez and the score remained tied at the half. The 2nd half started just as the first did as Centennial once again was able to find the net, this time in under a minute to take a 2-1 lead. Justin Maniquis latched on to an errant clearance just 2 minutes later to tie the score at 2. Centennial had a number of chances to get the win but were unable to find the back of the net and the game ended 2-2.

 

With the tie the Vikings are now 6-5-1 overall and 3-2-1 in Big12 play. The Vikings travel to Mahomet on Saturday for their next match. Game times (newly changed) will be JV at 10:00 and Varsity at 11:30.
