LOCAL/STATE SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES


Vermilion County Retired Teachers Association
The Vermilion County Retired Teachers Association is once again awarding four scholarships to students going into the field of education at the college level and who live in Vermilion County.  Deadline is March 30, 2017.

Adam D. Wagner Memorial Scholarship
One $300 scholarship will be awarded to a DHS Senior who played soccer or who is pursuing a major in Criminal Justice. The five criteria used to select the scholarship recipient are: academic standing (above average grades); an essay (the topic of which is outlined in the application); letters of recommendation; involvement in school activities; and the exhibiting of good sportsmanship. Please submit to your counselor by April 5, 2017.

Gary C & Phyllis J. Rogers Fellowship
The Gary & Phyllis Rogers Fellowship award was established to aid students in continuing their education. Seniors should be in the upper third of their graduating class OR have a 3.0 or above GPA, be involved in extracurricular activities & community service, demonstrate financial need, and plan to enroll in an accredited college or university. Applications, with supporting materials, are due to your counselor by April 5, 2017.

Debbie Wright Memorial Fund Award
The Debbie Wright Memorial Scholarship was established to aid a student who is pursuing a bachelor's degree at the University of Illinois in a medical related field. The recipient must demonstrate an excitement for learning and show financial need. ​Completed applications must be turned in to your counselor by April 5, 2017.

​Dick Van Dyke Performing Arts Scholarship
The Dick Van Dyke Scholarship is established to aid students in continuing their education. Applicants should rank in the upper half of their class, be good citizens, have participated in extracurricular activities especially in the performing arts (band, orchestra, chorus, show choir, dance or drama), and intend to enroll in an accredited college or university. Return completed application by April 5, 2017.

The Robert & Suzanne Zimmerman Endowed Scholarship
The Robert & Suzanne Zimmerman Endowed Scholarship is intended for a student entering a career in Applied or Practical Arts, i.e. carpentry, woodworking, drafting, machinist, beautician, secretary, medical assistant, music, arts, etc. April 5, 2017 is the last day your counselor will accept applications.

Wayne & Marjorie Denman Memorial Scholarship
The Wayne & Marjorie Denman Memorial Scholarship was established to aid students in continuing their education in the field of teacher education. Applicants should rank in the upper half of their class, be good citizens, have participated in extracurricular activities, and intend to enroll in an accredited college or university to concentrate on the field of education. Deadline to apply is April 5, 2017.

John Stevenson Athletic/Academic Scholarship
John Stevenson was an outstanding athlete & student at Danville High School who graduated with the Class of 1955. John was well liked and admired by his classmates and was considered a class leader. He was a member of the Honor Society & was on the honor roll every semester. He was also awarded 9 athletic letters in baseball, basketball, and cross country. Applicants for the John Stevenson Athletic/Academic Scholarship must have played a varsity sport for at least two years, must have at least a B average, must have zero discipline problems (within the school and the community), and must have participated in other non-academic school supported activities. ​Applications for this scholarship will not be taken after April 5, 2017.

​Dr. David Fields Scholarship
The Dr. David L. Fields Scholarship was established to aid students to continue their education. Senior applicants should rank in the upper half of their class, be a good citizen, have participated in extracurricular activities and intend to enroll in an accredited college or university in the field of teacher education. ​Applications must be submitted to your counselor by April 5, 2017.

Cameron Cunningham Foundation Scholarship
The Cameron Cunningham Foundation Scholarship fund was established to aid students to continue their education in the medical field. Seniors should rank in the upper half of their class, be a good citizen, have participated in extracurricular activities and intend to enroll in an accredited college or university in which financial assistance is needed. Applications can be obtained in the guidance office & must be turned in to the Cameron Cunningham Foundation by March 31, 2017.

2016-2017 DHS Student Council Scholarship
One $1,000 scholarship will be award to a Senior Student Council member who plans to further his/her education in college or a technical/vocational school. The decision of the winners will be made by a committee composed of District #118 administrators, teachers, and students. Senior student council members can pick up an application in the guidance office. All materials must be submitted to Mrs. Hile's room (245) no later than
Tuesday, April 4, 2017.


Business Women of Vermilion County
The Business Women of Vermilion County will be awarding two $1,000 scholarships this year to female high school graduates of Vermilion County. This award is given to further advance young women's education in business and professional careers, a purpose of the organization. In order to be eligible for a scholarship applicants must have been accepted as a first year student to a two or four year college, must be in the upper third of her class, must be in a state of financial need. Applications and additional materials must be received via USPS no later than Saturday, April 15, 2017. 

Cassandra & Jerry Reed Scholarship
This scholarship was established to support Cassandra & Jerry's belief that the pursuit of higher education always opens doors toward success. In order to be eligible for the scholarship the student must be a current high school senior, have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and write a 1 page essay consisting of 500 words or less in regards to whether you feel texting and driving should be legal. Essays must be submitted to counselors by April 7, 2017.

Reuben & Florida Reed Scholarship
The Reuben & Florida Reed Scholarship was established to honor the memory of Reuben & Florida Reed, who dedicated their lives to their family of 14 children, their church, and their community. Reuben & Florida never had the chance to pursue higher education themselves, but encouraged their children to reach their fullest potential. In order to be eligible for this scholarship the student must be a current high school senior, must be of African American descent, must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, & submit an essay consisting of 500 words or less on his/her views on voting rights. Essays must be returned to counselors by April 7, 2017.

The John C. Sanders Scholarship
Each year the John C. Sanders Scholarship is awarded to a student graduating from Danville High School who will attend an institution of higher learning. The $1,000 scholarship is presented to a student who has demonstrated a consistently high level of academic achievement in mathematics, science, social studies, English, and a foreign language; who has participated in extracurricular activities throughout his or her high school career; who has indicated a desire to serve the community; and who has written a thoughtful essay on why one seeks a higher education. Applications and supporting materials must be returned to your guidance counselor by April 10, 2017.

Frank Hill Memorial Scholarship
Students applying for the Frank Hill Memorial Scholarship must be in the upper third of their class, must exhibit financial need, must have participated in extracurricular activities and community service, and must attend Danville Area Community College in the Fall of 2017. Applications must be received by April 7, 2017.

Helen Nash Memorial Scholarship
Applicants for the Helen Nash Memorial Scholarship must be in the upper half of their class, must exhibit financial need, and must have participated in extracurricular activities and community service. Application deadline is April 7, 2017.

Jean Medaris Memorial Scholarship
The Jean Medaris Memorial Scholarship was established to aid students in continuing their education.  Seniors should rank in the upper half of their class, participate in extra-curricular activities, participate in service activities, and plan to enroll in an accredited college or university. April 7, 2017 is the deadline for submitting applications.

Irena Maris Memorial Scholarship
Potential recipients of the Irena Maris Memorial Scholarship must be in the upper half of their class, must exhibit financial need, must have been active in extracurricular activities and community service, and must be attending a 4 year college or university in the fall of 2017. Applications are due to your counselor by April 7, 2017.

Kiwanis Noon Club Scholarship
The Kiwanis Noon Club gives three DHS students each a $300 scholarship toward furthering their education. Applicants must be in the upper half of their class, and must have participated in extracurricular activities and community service. Application deadline is April 7, 2017.

The Jack Millikin Scholarship Award
The Jack Millikin award is a $500 scholarship available to two students who meet the qualifying criteria: must be in the upper half of his/her graduating class; must have been active in extracurricular activities and community service. Due date for applications is
April 7, 2017.


Williford Woodard Memorial Scholarship
Students applying for the Williford Woodard Memorial Scholarship must be in the upper half of their graduating class, must exhibit financial need, and must have participated in extracurricular activities and community service throughout their high school career. Applications are due April 7, 2017.

P.E,O. Chapter HX Scholarship
The P.E.O. Sisterhood is an international women's organization of about 250,000 members with a primary focus on providing educational opportunities for female students worldwide. The Local Chapter HX of P.E.O. has established an annual scholarship of $250 to be awarded to a graduating senior woman at Danville High School and at Schlarman Academy who has demonstrated excellence in academics and good citizenship, as well as participation in extracurricular activities and/or community service. Applications are due April 1, 2017.

Mark Denman Scholarship
The Mark Denman Scholarship of $500 will be awarded to a graduating senior planning to attend college who has demonstrated excellence in academics and good citizenship as well as active participation in extracurricular activities (sports, music, &/or clubs). To be eligible, the student needs to submit the application and provide proof of the following: a 3.75 grade point average; a letter from two coaches and/or advisers documenting current involvement in a club, sport, and/or music; copy of letter of acceptance from the college or university that the applicant plans to attend. ​Deadline for applications is April 7, 2017.

​Richard Roberts Scholarship
The Richard Roberts Scholarship was established in 2005 to assist students who have either been involved in music programs throughout their time at Danville High School or students who plan on continuing their education in the area of music. This interest-free scholarship is payable in October after verification of registration has been received. ​Applications are due to your counselor by April 5, 2017.

Vermilion County Bar Association
The Vermilion County Bar Association is accepting applications for one of its $500 scholarship grants to be awarded in May 2017. Two such grants will be awarded. To be eligible, an applicant must be a resident of Vermilion County who is seeking assistance in an undergraduate or law degree program. Applicants must have earned a 3.0 out of 4.0 GPA, be supported by a letter of recommendation by a teacher or instructor of the applicant and submit a personal, one paragraph statement with his/her request that indicates the student's community involvement and why he/she believes that he/she would be a good recipient of the scholarship. The application request and supporting documents should be sent to the Vermilion County Bar Association Scholarship, c/o Jerry Davis, Chairman, Scholarship Committee, P.O. Box 344, Danville, IL 61834-0344. Applications will be reviewed no later than April 1, 2017.

Danville High School Athletic Boosters Club Scholarship
The DHS Athletic Boosters Club Scholarship is offering two $250 scholarship awards. The scholarships will be awarded to one male and one female who have participated in sports during their high school years, displayed good citizenship, and is in the top half of their class. Applications are due in 213 by April 7, 2017.

Boehm Visual Arts Scholarship
The Boehm Visual Arts Scholarship was established to aid students who actively pursue a college/university major in the Visual Arts. A student must declare a major in either drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, art education, graphic design, industrial design, fashion design, computer animation, or art therapy. Eligibility must include 2 years of high school Art and a minimum of 2 years of courses listed on the application. Applicants MUST rank in the upper one-third of their class. 
Completed applications are due in the guidance office by April 15, 2017.

AMBUCS Lori Lyons Special Education Scholarship
The Danville Chapter of AMBUCS will offer two $500 scholarships to Seniors graduating from the Danville and Vermilion County area who are pursuing a degree in the field of Special Education. These scholarships will be renewable for 4 years. Each year the applicant will receive a form to complete for additional scholarship funds. Completed applications & recommendation forms need to be submitted via USPS to the address listed on the application by March 31, 2017.

The Christie Foundation Health Profession Scholarship
The Christie Foundation is pleased to announce that they are now taking applications for the 2017-2018 Health Profession Scholarship. The application can ONLY be accessed electronically at www.christie-foundation.org/scholarships. If you are pursuing a degree in a health related field this may be the scholarship for you. If you have any questions you may contact Laura Mann at lmann@christieclinic.com.
Deadline for the application is March 31, 2017. 

Nanette Finkle Scholarship
The Nanette Finkle Scholarship will be awarded to a female DHS 2017 graduating senior who has demonstrated leadership in her schoolwork & extracurricular involvement. Applications are available in the guidance office & are due April 5, 2017.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Scholarship
The Champaign-Urbana Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will be honoring the scholastic achievements of African American female students from area high schools in Champaign & Vermilion County during their 40th Annual Scholarship Tea Awards Program on Sunday, May 7, 2017. During this program, two $500 scholarships will be awarded to African American graduating college-bound women. Students applying for this scholarship should be African American females who have not only excelled academically, but who demonstrate strong leadership ability, involvement in extracurricular activities, and volunteerism in their community. Recipients must be enrolled at an accredited college or university for the upcoming academic year. Applications and supporting materials need to be received by mail by Saturday, April 1, 2017.

Jennifer Allen Memorial Scholarship
The Jennifer Allen Memorial Scholarship was established by the Danville Association of Educational Office Professionals (DAEOP) in memory of Jennifer Allen. To qualify, applicants must be a U.S. citizen & meet the following criteria: Must be a graduating Danville High School senior & plan to continue his/her education within the current calendar year in an office-related business program. Applicants must have taken two or more one-year business courses such as accounting, business communications, computer training, or be enrolled in college prep courses. Applicant must intend to continue his/her education within the current calendar year. Applications & completed supporting materials must be submitted by
April 1, 2017. 


DHS National Honor Society Scholarship
To be eligible for this scholarship students must be a senior member of National Honor Society at Danville High School. The member must be in good standing and not currently on probation for any reason, academic or otherwise. This scholarship is funded through Community Blood Services and the Life Saving Grant. The value of this scholarship will be no less than $250; the actual value will be determined by the results of the April 12, 2017 blood drive. Applications must be submitted to Mrs. Rachel Brown by April 7, 2017. 

NAIFA Paul Brumaghim Memorial Scholarship
National Association of Insurance & Financial Advisors-East Central Illinois (NAIFA-ECI) is made up of Insurance & Financial Advisors from Champaign, Vermilion, Edgar, Douglas, & Piatt counties. The Paul Brumaghim Memorial Scholarship is named for longtime Shelter Agent Paul Brumaghim from Danville. Paul was a tireless supporter of NAIFA and was a mentor to many agents in the area. We award (2) $500 Scholarships every year to deserving high school Seniors who plan to major in Insurance, Finance, Business or some other field related to the Financial Services Industry in college. The deadline for submissions is Friday, March 31st & can be received via regular mail, dropped off at the office of Rick Rotramel, Vermilion County Center for Agriculture (Farm Bureau), 1905-B, US Route 150, Danville, IL or sent via e-mail to rick.rotramel@countryfinancial.com. 

The Sigma Nu Pursuit of Excellence Scholarship
Sigma Nu is seeking men who are intellectually, morally, and physically capable of leadership in any field. The Selection Committee of Sigma Nu Fraternity considers a number of attributes in its selection of the Pursuit of Excellence Scholar. The distinctiveness of this honor arises from the comprehensive sets of attributes considered. Intellectual strength is an obvious prerequisite; however, it is not considered in mere isolation to other qualities. Sigma Nu seeks a man who will be attending the University of Illinois in the fall of 2017 who has achieved a 3.0 or above GPA who has also demonstrated a blend of character, intellect, and good humor. Eugene & Audrey Brandon Foundation 2nd Annual Scholarship
The family of Eugene & Audrey Brandon would like to honor their legacy by awarding (2) $500 scholarships to a deserving male & female graduate of Danville High School. Both graduates of Danville High School, Eugene & Audrey Brandon aided the development of many of Danville leaders today. Applicants must be a graduating African-American male or female attending Danville High School, must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75, and must submit a completed scholarship application packet. ​Completed scholarship application packets should be sent to the address provided within the packet by April 5, 2017.

Loretta Randle Scholarship
The Randle family is offering a $500 scholarship in honor of their late mother, Mrs. Loretta G. Randle, to a Danville High School Senior who plans to attend Danville Area Community College. The Loretta G. Randle Scholarship is intended for students who are in need of financial assistance and a desire to continue their education through hard work and academic performance. There is no specific field of study required to qualify for the scholarship. ​Applications are due April 5, 2017.

Joe D. Ward Memorial Scholarship
Mr. Joe Ward was an honorable and respected member of the community as well as an outstanding educator, coach and administrator at Danville High school nearly forty years ago.  At DHS for 40+ years he was known as our Assistant Athletic Director, award winning Track Coach, Assistant Football Coach and teacher.  He served Danville’s junior highs and elementary schools as Athletic Director.  In the community, Mr. Ward was an instrumental volunteer bringing the Special Olympics program to Danville and coordinating it for many years.  Both Joe Ward and his wife and fellow educator, Margaret Ward have made an enormous difference in the lives of students, parents, fellow teachers and, administrators.
The Joe D. Ward Memorial scholarship was established to assist a DHS student in their pursuit of continuing their collegiate coursework in the field of education. Applicants must be good citizens who are ranked in the upper half of their class. Applicants must have also participated in extracurricular activities and intend to pursue a degree in education at an accredited college or university. Applications are available in the guidance office & are due by April 5, 2017.  

East Central Illinois Community Action Agency Scholarship
East Central Illinois Community Action Agency is offering scholarships to income eligible individuals who reside in Ford, Iroquois, or Vermilion County and are furthering their education by enrolling in courses at an accredited college, university, or technical/vocational school within the state of Illinois. To qualify students must submit the application and required essay no later than April 7, 2017. Scholarship finalists will be asked to provide verification of family income. Scholarship awards are between $1,000 to $2,500 depending upon the number of eligible applicants who apply and/or the availability of grant funding.

Health Professionals Scholarship Program--Physical Therapy
The purpose of this program is to provide financial assistance to individuals pursuing a program of study leading to a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. This program will help alleviate the health care work shortages in the VA by requiring scholarship recipients to complete a 2-year service obligation at a VA health care facility after graduation and licensure/certification. The Scholarship awards provide for the payment of a monthly stipend, tuition, required fees, and other reasonable educational expenses, including books & necessary equipment.
