LOCAL/STATE SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES


Mark Denman Scholarship
The Mark Denman Scholarship was named in honor of Mark Denman by the Danville Public School Foundation in 2015 in honor of his retirement after more than 40 years as a teacher, principal, and superintendent of the city schools. The $500 scholarship will be awarded annually to a graduating senior who has demonstrated excellence in academics and good citizenship, as well as active participation in extra-curricular activities. Applicants must have a 3.75 or higher GPA. Applications and supporting materials are due by April 6, 2018.

Frank Hill Memorial Scholarship
Students applying for the Frank Hill Memorial Scholarship must be in the upper third of their class, must exhibit financial need, must have participated in extracurricular activities and community services, and must attend Danville Area Community College in the Fall of 2018. Applications must be received by April 6, 2018.

Helen Nash Memorial Scholarship
Applicants of the Helen Nash Memorial Scholarship must be in the upper half of their class, must exhibit financial need, and must have participated in extracurricular activities and community service. Application deadline is April 6, 2018.

Jean Medaris Memorial Scholarship
The Jean Medaris Scholarship was established to aid students in continuing their education. Senior applicants should rank in the upper half of their class, participate in extracurricular activities, participate in service activities, and plan to enroll at an accredited college or university. April 6, 2018 is the deadline for submitting applications.

Irena Maris Memorial Scholarship
Potential recipients of the Irena Maris Memorial Scholarship must be in the upper half of their class, must exhibit financial need, must have been active in extracurricular activities and community services, and must be attending a 4 year college or university in the Fall of 2018. A male and a female applicant will be chosen for the $2000 award. 
Applications are due to your counselor by April 6, 2018.

Kiwanis Noon Scholarship
The Kiwanis Noon Scholarship gives three DHS students each a $300 scholarship toward furthering their education. Applicants must be in the upper half of their class, and must have participated in extracurricular activities and community service. 
Application deadline is April 6, 2018.

The Jack Millikin Scholarship Award
The Jack Millikin Award is a $500 scholarship available to two students who meet the qualifying criteria: must be in the upper half of his/her graduating class; must have been active in extracurricular activities and community service. 
Due date for applications is April 6, 2018.

Williford Woodard Memorial Scholarship
Students applying for the Williford Woodard Memorial Scholarship must be in the upper half of their graduating class, must exhibit financial need, and must have participated in extracurricular activities and community service throughout their high school career. Applications are due April 6, 2018.

Jonathan Wallace Memorial Scholarship
The Jonathan Wallace Memorial Scholarship was established to financially assist a student who is physically handicapped in his/her pursuit of higher education. Students must also be in the upper half of their class and have been involved in extracurricular activities throughout his/her high school career. Applications must be received by April 6, 2018. 

Adam D. Wagner Memorial Scholarship
The Adam D. Wagner Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to one DHS Senior who has participated in soccer or who is pursuing a major in criminal justice. The five criteria used to select the scholarship recipient are: academic standing (above average grades), an essay of up to 750 words (the topic of which is detailed on the application), letters of recommendation, school activities, and sportsmanship. Application materials are due by April 6, 2018.

The Robert & Suzanne (Seybold) Zimmerman Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is intended for a student entering a career in Applied or Practical Arts, such as carpentry, woodworking, drafting, machinist, beautician, secretary, medical assistant, music, arts, etc. Applications are due by April 6, 2018.

Debbie Wright Memorial Fund Award
The Debbie Wright Memorial Scholarship was established to aid a student who is pursuing a bachelor's degree at the University of Illinois in a medical related field. The recipient must demonstrate an excitement for learning and show financial need. 
Applications must be submitted by April 6, 2018.

Dick Van Dyke Scholarship
The Dick Van Dyke Scholarship was established to aid students in continuing their education. Applicants should rank in the upper half of their class, be good citizens, have participated in extracurricular activities especially in the performing arts (band, chorus, orchestra, show choir, dance, or drama), and intend to enroll in an accredited college or university. 
Deadline for applications is April 6, 2018.

John Stevenson Athletic/Academic Scholarship
John Stevenson was an outstanding athlete and student at Danville High School who graduated with the class of 1955. John was well liked and admired by his classmates and was considered a class leader. He was a member of the Honor Society and was on the Honor Roll every semester. He was also awarded nine varsity letters in baseball, basketball, and cross country. Applicants must have played a varsity sport for at least two years, must have at least a 3.0 GPA, have had no discipline problems in school or within the community, and have participated in other non-academic school supported activities. 
Applications must be received by April 6, 2018. 

Art & Virginia Mathisen Memorial Principal's Scholarship
The Art & Virginia Mathisen Scholarship two recipients are selected by the current Danville High School Principal. Qualifications necessary to apply for this scholarship are: students must be in the upper third of their graduating class; must have participated in extracurricular activities while in high school; must have good citizenship. 
Applications are due by April 6, 2018.

Helen Conover Memorial Foreign Language Scholarship
The Helen Conover Memorial Scholarship was established to aid Seniors in continuing their education. Applicants should have at least a B average, be currently taking at least their sixth semester of a foreign language, be good citizens, have participated in extracurricular activities, and intend to enroll in an accredited college or university. 
Deadline for applications is April 6, 2018.

Danville High School P.E.O. Chapter HX Scholarship
The Chapter HX P.E.O. Scholarship is offering a $250 scholarship opportunity to a student of their choosing. This scholarship will be awarded to one graduating female who has demonstrated excellence in academics and good citizenship, as well as participated in extracurricular activities and/or community service. 
April 6, 2018 is the deadline for application submissions.

Richard Roberts Scholarship
The Richard Roberts Scholarship was established in 2005 to assist students who have either been involved in music programs throughout their time at Danville High School or students who plan on continuing their education in the area of music. 
Applications are due to room 213 by April 6, 2018.

Gary C. & Phyllis J. Rogers Fellowship Scholarship
The Gary C. & Phyllis J. Rogers Fellowship award was established to aid students in continuing their education. Senior applicants should be in the upper third of their graduating class OR have a 3.0 or above GPA, be involved in extracurricular activities/community service, demonstrate financial need, and plan to enroll in an accredited college or university. Included with this application must be: photo of student, current transcript, essay (details of essay outlined on application), and two letters of recommendation. Application and supporting materials are due by April 6, 2018.

Nanette Finkle Scholarship
The Nanette Finkle Scholarship will be awarded to a female DHS 2018 graduating senior who has demonstrated leadership in her schoolwork & extracurricular activities. 
Applications are due by April 6, 2018.

Wayne & Marjorie Denman Scholarship
The Wayne & Marjorie Denman Memorial Scholarship was established to aid students in continuing their education. Applicants should rank in the upper half of their class, be good citizens, have participated in extracurricular activities, and intend to enroll in an accredited college or university in the field of teacher education.
Applications must be submitted by April 6. 2018. 

Business Women of Vermilion County
The Business Women of Vermilion County will be awarding two $1,000 scholarships this year to female high school graduates of Vermilion County. This award is given to further advance young women's education in business & professional careers, a purpose of the organization. The $1,000 scholarship will be given to the college of the recipient's choice prior to fall registration. In order to be eligible for consideration, applicants must meet the following criteria: must be accepted as a first year student at a two or four year college; must be in the upper third of her graduating class; should be in need of financial aid. Applications and additional required materials must be received no later than Saturday, April 7, 2018.

Loretta G. Randle Annual Scholarship
The Randle family is offering a $500 scholarship in honor of their late mother, Mrs. loretta G. Randle, to a Danville High School senior who plans to attend Danville Area Community College in the fall of 2018. The Loretta G. Randle Scholarship was established for students who have little or no means of paying for an education and have demonstrated, through hard work and academic performance, a desire to continue their education. Scholarship applications must be received by April 6, 2018.

Dr. David L. Fields Scholarship
The Dr. David L. Fields Scholarship was established to aid students in continuing their education. Senior applicants should rank in the upper half of their class, be a good citizen, have participated in extracurricular activities, and intend to enroll in an accredited college or university in the field of teacher education. Applications are due April 6, 2018.

The John C. Sanders Scholarship
Each year the John C. Sanders Scholarship is awarded to a student graduating from Danville High School who will attend an institution of higher learning. The $1,000 scholarship is presented to a student who has demonstrated a consistently high level of academic achievement in mathematics, science, social studies, English, and a foreign language; who has participated in extracurricular activities throughout his or her high school career; who has written a thoughtful essay on why one seeks a higher education. ​Applications are due in the DHS Guidance Office by April 6, 2018.

Laura Lee Fellowship House Scholarship
The Laura Lee Fellowship Scholarships were established to aid students in continuing their education. Seniors should rank in the upper half of their class, demonstrate financial need, participate in extra-curricular activities, participate in service and church activities, and plan to enroll in an accredited college or university. 
Applications are due by April 6, 2018.

The DHS Class of 1977 Scholarship
Representatives of the great DHS class of 1977 is thrilled to offer their first scholarship to a deserving fellow Viking. This scholarship is a one-time honor scholarship for $500, collected through donations from the graduates of the class of 1977. In addition to this scholarship, the recipient will walk forward with the full support & mentorship of the members of the class of '77. This scholarship is open to DHS seniors who have been accepted to an accredited technical program, college or university for the 2018 fall semester. Applicants must submit a 400 to 500 word essay on "What opportunities does this scholarship provide you that you wouldn't have had otherwise?" Other information for the necessary scholarship materials can be picked up in the Guidance Office, room 213.
Essay must be submitted via e-mail by midnight on April 6, 2018.

​​​Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Epsilon Epsilon Omega Chapter Scholarship
Founded in 1908 at Howard University, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority is the oldest Greek-letter organization established in America by African-American college women. Since its founding, the sorority has flourished into a globally-impactful organization of over 270,000 college trained members. Epsilon Epsilon Omega Chapter is an alumni chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha  Sorority serving Champaign, Danville, and Urbana since 1949 and has awarded scholarships to African-American college bound women for more than 30 years. Applicants must be an African-American female with a minimum GPA of 2.5/4.0, demonstrate community service involvement, and identify academic recognition. 
Applications must be postmarked by April 6, 2018.

Cassandra & Jerry Reed Scholarship
The Cassandra and Jerry Reed Scholarship was established to assist a senior in furthering his/her post-secondary education. Cassandra and Jerry Reed believed that the pursuit of higher education opens doors toward success. Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. A 500 word or less essay on the topic specified on the information sheet is required. Applications must be submitted by April 8, 2018.

​Reuben/Florida Reed Scholarship
The Reuben/Florida Reed Scholarship was established to honor the memory of Reuben and Florida Reed, whom dedicated their lives to their family of 14 children, their church, and their community. Although Reuben and Florida Reed never had the chance to pursue higher education they always encouraged their children to reach their fullest potential. Applicants must be of African-American descent and have a 3.0 or higher GPA. A 500 word or less essay on the topic specified on the information sheet is required.

OSF HealthCare Scholarship
OSF HealthCare Sacred Heart Medical Center would like to provide a $500 scholarship to support an individual interested in a career in health care. The student should have a vigorous science background, have a history of academic achievement, demonstrated leadership skills, and a strong desire to serve those in need. 
Applications must be submitted to room 213 by April 13, 2018. 

Boehm Visual Arts Scholarship
The Boehm Visual Arts Scholarship was established to aid students who actively pursue a college/university major in the Visual Arts. A student must declare a major in either drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, art education, graphic design, industrial design, fashion design, computer animation, or art therapy. Eligibility must include 2 years of high school Art and a minimum of 2 years of a variety of courses listed on the application. Applicants MUST rank in the upper one-third of their class. Applications are due by April 15, 2018.

The Third Annual Eugene & Audrey Brandon Scholarship
The family of Eugene & Audrey Brandon would like to honor their legacy by awarding two $500 scholarships to a deserving male and female graduating Danville High School senior. Both graduates of DHS, Eugene & Audrey Brandon aided the development of many of Danville leaders today. Applicants must:
* be a graduating African-American male or female attending Danville High School.
*have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.75 on a 4.0 grading scale.
*submit a completed scholarship application packet.
Applications must be received to the Eugene & Audrey Brandon Foundation by 
Friday, April 20, 2018.


Athnet Sports Recruiting Scholarship
The Athnet Sports Recruiting Scholarship is a $1000 scholarship available to future college students who play or have played sports at the high school level. Sigma Nu Pursuit of Excellence Scholarship
The Sigma Nu Pursuit of Excellence Scholarship consists of a one-time direct payment to one University of Illinois freshman male student of $2,500. Applicants must be an entering male, freshman student at the University of Illinois in Fall 2018 AND has achieved a 3.0 or above GPA through his junior year in high school. ​Applications are due by July 15, 2018.
