LOCAL/STATE SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES


VFW Voice of Democracy Youth Scholarship
The Voice of Democracy Program is open to students in grades 9-12 (on the October 31 deadline), who are enrolled in a public, private, or parochial high school or home study program in the United States & its territories. To enter, download the Voice of Democracy entry form & brochure (https://www.vfw.org/community/youth-and-education/youth-scholarships) to submit your essay to your local VFW Post by the October 31, 2017 deadline.
 

HRCC Scholarship
The Human Resources Construction Council (HRCC) & Build Your Future (BYF) are now accepting applications for the 2017 HRCC Scholarship. The scholarship is open to anyone planning to attend or currently attending a technical school or approved craft training program. Scholarships are valued at $500 a year for each recipient and can be renewed annually. Applicants must desire a career in the construction industry & be pursuing a degree, certificate or credential in a construction discipline or construction-related studies/programs. Applicants MUST have a minimum GPA of 2.0. For further details & to access the online application please go to https://form.jotform.com/51136098442959. The Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship
The Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK) Celebration Committee has established the Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship for a graduating high school senior who plans to pursue his/her education at an institution of higher learning. Candidates must provide parent income tax return & personal income tax return (if applicable). Candidates must write an essay based on Dr. King's "I Have a Dream" speech. Candidates with a C average must include a letter of recommendation from their counselor requesting consideration for the scholarship. Candidates must be active in a religious institution and must submit a letter of verification from pastor or a designated leader of his/her religion. Candidates must be involved in the community and must submit a letter of verification from a community leader, teacher, coach, or volunteer supervisor regarding extra-curricular activities. The Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship is valued at $4000, payable at $2000 for two years. This scholarship is open to ALL students who meet the above criteria. Scholarship applications must be submitted to the MLK Committee at the Human Relations Office,
17 West Main Street in Danville, by 4:30 p.m. on 
Friday, December 1, 2017. 
 
The Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student Scholarship
The Elks National Foundation will aware 500 four-year scholarships to the highest-rated applicants in the 2018 competition. The 2018 Most Valuable Student Scholarship contest is open to any high school seniors who is a US Citizen (applicants need not be related to an Elks member) . Applicants will be judged on scholarship, leadership, and financial need. The 2018 MVS application deadline is November 27, 2017. University of Illinois Children of Veterans Tuition Waiver
The Children of Veterans Tuition Waiver is a four-year (consecutive) tuition waiver at the University of Illinois. Eligible applicants must be a permanent resident of the Illinois county from which the student applies & must have been admitted or applied to the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign, Chicago, Springfield, or Health Science Center). Applicants must be the natural child, step-child, or legally adopted child (by January 1, 2017) of the veteran on whose service the application is made. Additionally, applicants must provide a legible copy of his/her veteran parent's DD Form 214 as proof of his/her active or reserve duty service during certain conflicts (list of eligible conflicts are on application details page). Priority deadline to apply is January 2, 2018. Applications can be picked up in the Guidance Office, room 213.

The Elks National Foundation Legacy Awards
Legacy Awards are $4,000 scholarships for children and grandchildren of Elks members. The Foundation will offer a total of 300 awards in the 2018 contest, an increase of 50 awards. Kara L. Boyer Memorial Scholarship
The Kara L. Boyer Memorial Scholarship was established in 2016 to provide financial assistance to individuals that are planning on furthering their education at a community college or university. This scholarship is only available to a Danville High School Senior. Applicants must have a minimum of a 2.5 GPA; must have been accepted to a college or university for fall 2018; must have been involved in extra-curricular activities; must have completed a minimum of 5 hours of volunteer service. Applications are due to the Kara L. Boyer Memorial Scholarship committee by March 2, 2018.

Red Mask Players, Inc. Jean Lewis Scholarship
The Red Mask Players, Inc. will be presenting the Jean Lewis Scholarship award this year to a local high school, or college, student who has expressed an interest in the pursuit of the performing arts while in college. Students who are planning to pursue a field of study directly related to the theater are encouraged to apply. Applicants will be asked to audition before the committee on April 25, 2018.
